What is Proctolog® (Ruscogenin, Trimebutine) used for?

Proctolog® is commonly used for treatment of haemorrhoidal itching; anal fissures (fissure syndromes); anal inflammation related to fissures; rectal bleeding from fissures and haemorrhoids.

How should I take Proctolog® (Ruscogenin, Trimebutine)?

Rectal cream:

Gently apply a small amount of ointment (by finger or nozzle) to the affected area up to three times daily.


  • Wash hands with soap and water.
  • Either squat or lie on your side with one leg bent and the other straight.
  • Gently but firmly push the suppository into the rectum, pointed end first. If necessary, moisten the end of the suppository with a little water. Push it in far enough so that it doesn’t slip out.
  • Close your legs and sit or lie still for a few minutes.
  • Wash your hands again.

How do I store Proctolog® (Ruscogenin, Trimebutine)?

Proctolog® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Proctolog® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Proctolog® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Proctolog® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.

What is the dose of Proctolog® (Ruscogenin, Trimebutine) for an adult?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services (115) or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Proctolog®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
