About Zocor
Zocor is the original simvastatin brand. Doctors prescribe it with diet and exercise to lower LDL cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at higher risk.
Both contain simvastatin. Zocor is the originator brand from Organon; Simvor is a generic made in Kedah by Ranbaxy and costs less. Ask your doctor before changing brand so your prescription stays correct.

Taking Zocor
Yes, most doctors advise the evening, because the body makes much of its cholesterol overnight. Food makes no difference.
Skip the missed tablet and take the next one at your usual time. Don't take 2 tablets to make up for it.
Your doctor picks the strength from your LDL level, heart risk and other medicines. Order the strength on your prescription and don't change it yourself.
Avoid large amounts of grapefruit or grapefruit juice. It can raise the level of simvastatin in your blood and the chance of muscle problems.
Safety
Many people notice none. When they happen, the usual ones are stomach upset, constipation, headache and mild muscle aches. Muscle pain or weakness you can't explain, especially with dark urine, needs a doctor the same day.
Some antibiotics, antifungals and HIV medicines should not be taken with simvastatin. With some heart medicines, such as amlodipine or amiodarone, your doctor may keep the dose lower. Show your doctor and pharmacist everything you take, supplements included.
