Tips to Remember to Take Daily Medicine

Remembering to take daily seems like such a simple work, however, we often forget. Our bodies need a specific amount of medicine for the drugs to take effect. Not taking one or two doses can mess up the buildup of medicines, making them less effective.

Now that we all agree that we should remember to take our medicines. We can start creating a plan so as not to miss our doses. Here are some tips to remember to take your medicine every day.

    Learn about your condition

Getting to know about your medicines will reinforce your adherence to the treatment plan. By understanding what you are consuming, you will know what side effect to look out for.

    Get pill boxes

A pill box is a tool to keep your medicine and remind you to take them each day. A pill box is usually divided into sections that make up a week’s worth of medicine. They can be fit into your bag or carried with you on vacation. Pill boxes are useful for old people.

    Pill reminder app

We check our phone at least 50 times a day and spend a third of our day on our phone. So why not use your phone as a reminder to take your meds. There are plenty of applications for medicine reminder out there. Alternatively, you can simple set an alarm clock when you need to take your medicine.

Put your medicines where you can see

Visibility is key. Keep your medicines in an easy to see spot so that you can remember to take them.

    Create a routine

Tie your medicine to your daily routine. For example: “These meds are used after breakfast, these are for bedtime”, etc. Creating a “mantra” for yourself is helpful as well, such as “I am taking Tuesday’s pill now”.

Make a medicine chart. List each medicine and the time that you take the medicine. Leave a space so that you can check off when you take the medicine. You can do this on your calendar or in a notebook that you keep with you.

Ask your doctor to create a simple medical regime

While you should not pursue your doctor to give you a specific medicine, you can ask your doctor to find alternative for a drug to fit in with your schedule. Your doctor may be able to cut back on some of your medicines. Ask your doctor or pharmacist which medications you can safely take together at the same time to limit multiple daily doses.

Get help from your family and friends

Two heads are better than one. Having a family member or a friend remind you can be great help. Create a buddy system with a friend to remind each other to take your medicine.
