Parenting has never been an easy task. Almost all parents struggle with it. It is always difficult since you want to give your children the best things in the world yet do not want to spoil them. No parents want to spoil their angels. However, they can unintentionally do that. In order to avoid spoiling your children without knowing, let’s have a look at what causes your children to be spoiled.
Crying – the only form of communication of infants
When your children are still infants. They may cry from time to time for food, diapers or just to be held. Crying infants are not spoiled. They are simply asking for what they need using and the only form of communication they are capable of – crying. Research has shown if parents respond quickly to infants’ cries, they will grow up to be more joyful and independent since they have learned from very young ages that their parents will always be there for them. Nevertheless, if parents only hold their children when they cry, the children may learn that the only way they can get attention is crying, which will make them cry more. To prevent this, you should pick up your child and hold him or her more often, even when there is no cry.
When your toddler needs your attention
As your children grow up a little more into the toddler age, they start to throw tantrums once in a while. The reason is because they are hungry or hurt, or want something but have not been able to communicate their problems to you. It makes them furious, hence the tantrums. This is the period when children learn to handle their feelings. Tantrums are not necessary signs of a spoiled child. But if you give in the child’s tantrums too early, you may unconsciously teach the child that he or she can use them get whatever he or she wants. In addition, tantrums are only understandable in toddlers. If your children are more than 5 years old but still throw tantrums, they are trying to manipulate you. Do not ever give in to that or you will risk spoiling your children for real.
How to prevent your child from being spoil?
In conclusion, the best way to prevent your children from being spoil is to teach them about rules and limits, which cannot be negotiated. Give your children the right to choose a few things such as which clothes they want to wear, which fruits to eat or which book to read. However, when it comes to important rules like when to sleep or how long they can play, do not let them decide or persuade you even once. It is hard to be strict with people you love so much like your children, but it is also the right thing to do. Your tough love will be beneficial for your children for life.
