Increase Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant After 30

For most women nowadays, the 30s is considered the most appropriate time to get pregnant since you are financially stable and have built a strong relationship to nurture a family. However, your chance of pregnancy is not as high as in your 20s.

Getting pregnant after 30

As you age, your fertility drops and your chance of getting pregnant becomes smaller and smaller. This is particularly true when reaching the age of 35 and above. In this age group, the chance of conceiving drops drastically from 75% to 65%. In this article, we will provide some helpful tips that will help you increase your chances of getting pregnant after 30.

Keep yourself emotionally, physically and mentally healthy

Your lifestyle plays an important role in increasing your chances of conceiving. If you are more exposed to bad habits such as smoking, drinking caffeine or alcohol, your fertility rate can be affected greatly. Moreover, being overweight or underweight tampers with your hormone functions as well as increases the risks of pregnancy complications. Therefore, it is essential that you check your weight regularly and calculate your body mass index (BMI).

Certain types of food recommended to improve your fertility include monounsaturated fats (e.g. olive oil), vegetables high in proteins (e.g. soy), clean carbs high in fiber, iron, vitamin B and low-glycemic (e.g. oats, potatoes, whole-grain bread) and only an average quantity of high-fat dairy products (e.g. ice cream, whole milk, and cheese). In addition to these foods, it is advised that you take multivitamins or prenatal vitamins, especially vitamin E, and herbal supplements in order to increase your fertility.

Last but not least, your mental and emotional health has a substantial influence on your fertility. You should still engage in your favorite healthy activities such as cooking, listening to music, doing yoga, reading, exercising, having long a weekend break or simply spending more time with your partner.

Some simple tests such as checking your basal body temperature, cervical fluid, and vaginal pH help you understand the most optimal timing for intercourse according to regular ovulation. There are some methods that help improve the man’s health such as having him checked for varicocele, eliminating all toxins from his diet, adding vitamin and herbal supplements to his diet, making him lose weight if he is overweight and keeping the testes cool.

Schedule an appointment with a fertility specialist 

If after 6 months of frequent unprotected sex, your plan of getting pregnant does not work out, it is suggested that you see a fertility expert. Your appointment should be as soon as possible if you are having irregular periods, at risk of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or sexually transmitted diseases and your partner has a history of fertility problems.

Getting pregnant again after 30 may seem impossible to many couples. However, with the right preparation and knowledge of how to take care of yourself, you can increase the chances of getting pregnant.
