Eggplants are considered as a wonderful source of many vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients with little to no cholesterol or saturated fat. Eggplants provide a wide range of health benefits, including:

Promote digestion

Eggplants are packed with dietary fiber – an essential to the gastrointestinal system. Dietary fiber helps bowel movements pass through the digestive tract more easily by aiding the digestive motion and contractions of the muscles in your digestive tract. In addition, it also stimulates the release of gastric juices, increasing the absorption rate of nutrients.

Assist weight loss

Because eggplants do not have cholesterol, they are a good choice for those who want to shed weight. The high fiber content also helps fill up your stomach, slowing down the release of ghrelin – the hormone that signalizes hunger. When your stomach is filled up and your appetite gets reduced, you are less likely to overeat and gain weight.

Eggplants are full of antioxidants which are great at protecting the body from aging and illness. Vitamin C in eggplants promotes a healthy immune system by encouraging the production and regulation of white blood cells. An animal study has linked nasunin with an inhibiting effect on neural degeneration and cognitive diseases, which offers a promising outlook for people with those diseases.

People who are at risk of bone problems such as bone degradation and osteoporosis may greatly benefit from eating eggplants regularly. The phenolic compounds responsible for giving eggplants their glossy purple color are believed to relieve symptoms of bone diseases while increasing bone density. The high levels of iron and calcium in eggplants also contribute to general bone health. In addition, eggplants are rich in potassium, which helps increase calcium absorption.

Promote heart health

There is a balance of bad cholesterol and good cholesterol inside your body. Bad cholesterol may clog your arteries and veins, causing cardiovascular problems. This balance may be affected by the foods you eat. The general idea is to get as much good cholesterol, which is HDL cholesterol, as possible. By keeping the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) down, you can reduce your risk of heart attacks, strokes and atherosclerosis. Eggplants are good at raising the levels of HDL cholesterol while reducing the presence of LDL cholesterol. Also, the bioflavonoids in eggplants help manage your blood pressure, relieving the stress put on your cardiovascular system, improving heart health.
