The term cellulite is used to described the rough and lumpy patches of skin on the thighs, hips or buttocks. This condition is very common, especially in women.  It is caused by the distortion of the fat layer against the connective tissues, resulting in a bumpy skin. Although cellulite does not affect your health, its unsightly appearance can make you feel insecure about your look. Here are some solutions to cellulite.

Topical treatment

There is a wide range of cellulite creams that claim to burn the underlying fat layer, hence smoothing the skin texture. One of the most common active ingredients found in those creams is aminophylline, which is prescribed for asthma. Cellulite creams have its effect by squeezing water from the skin which dehydrates the fat tissues and causes them to shrink. As they narrow the blood vessels, these creams may be harmful to people with circulatory problems. In addition, aminophylline is also known to cause an allergic reaction to some people. So, remember to check with your doctor first before taking any cellulite topical treatments.

Mesotherapy

Originated in Europe, mesotherapy is widely used to ease the pain from inflammatory skin conditions. The procedure involves the injections of particular substances into the affected tissues. These substances are usually vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and enzymes. Mesotherapy fixes the appearance of cellulite by breaking down the fat deposits that cause this condition. Although mesotherapy does improve the skin condition, it has certain risks such as swelling, infection and irregular contours.

Liposuction

Liposuction aims to get rid of the excess fat from the body. As its name suggests, liposuction is a surgical procedure during which a narrow tube is inserted under the skin to suck out fat cells. The problem with liposuction is that it tackles deep fat while the fat responsible for cellulite lies just underneath the skin. Therefore, though liposuction is great to shape your body, its effectiveness as a treatment has not been proven yet. Fortunately, another form of liposuction was developed to meet the demand. This newer procedure is assisted with laser technique that makes it not only less invasive but also more effective with cellulite.

Massage treatments

Massages treatments can smooth the skin temporarily. One of massage treatments is Endermologie which uses an electrically powered device that suctions, pulls, and squeezes cellulite areas. The treatment is expensive and takes 30-45 minutes. To prevent the cellulite reappear, it is necessary to regularly maintain treatments.

As there are not yet any therapy that satisfies all cellulite cases, doctors are constantly looking for new treatments. With all the technology and medical developments, it is promising that a definite solution will probably emerge soon. In the meantime, it is best to consult with a medical professional and be patient with the treatment you are taking because miracles do not happen overnight. To help enhance the effect of your therapy, try to keep a healthy diet together with regular exercises.
