Can’t Get Pregnant Again?

Many couples wish to have more than just one child in their family, however, sometimes their wish cannot easily be fulfilled because they have difficulty in conceiving after the first child. This condition is referred as second infertility and it is more prevalent than infertility (the couples are unable to conceive from the start). Multiple reasons are behind this syndrome.

Possible problems with your reproductive system

Generally, your chance of conceiving decline with age, particularly from 35 and above. On the other hand, there might be other problems concerning your reproductive system that happen before or after your childbearing period and gradually get worse. It is crucial that you consult your doctor to acknowledge any possible conditions that may interrupt your conception, including ovulation disorder, uterus or fallopian tubes damage, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a blockage caused by fibroids, etc. Moreover, the possibility of miscarriage increases with age and diabetes.

Possible problems with your partner

Thirty-five is considered a declining age for fertility for both men and women. If your partner is from 35 or above, his hormones, tubes, and sperm will be more vulnerable. In addition, he might be subject to the shortage of healthy sperm or low-quality sperm, which means the sperms, are not strong enough to reach the egg.  These conditions can be attributed to illness, poor diet or lifestyle.

Changes in lifestyle

Lifestyle plays a crucial role in your chance of conception. The problem of second infertility might stem from your lifestyle changes. It is important to maintain your optimal weight since being overweight and underweight has a negative effect on your fertility. Furthermore, alcohol or smoking can also harm your fertility.

Unidentified causes

Besides other mentioned reasons above, many couples still face second infertility without certain causes. Nonetheless, around 15% of this population succeeds in conceiving after a year and 35% after two years. There is the higher chance for the couple under 30 than over 30. If your effort isn’t paid off after a certain time, sadly, it’s time to let go of your wanted size of a family.

There are many causes of your second infertility. It is important that you visit a fertility expert for further information and right approaches in dealing with this health condition.
