What is Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) used for?

Myrbetriq® reduces muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract.

Myrbetriq® is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of frequent or urgent urination and urinary incontinence.

Myrbetriq® may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

How should I take Myrbetriq® (mirabegron)?

Myrbetriq® is usually taken once per day. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

You may take Myrbetriq® with or without food.

Take this medicine with a full glass of water.

Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole.

Your blood pressure will need to be checked often.

It may take up to 8 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

How do I store Myrbetriq® (mirabegron)?

Myrbetriq® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Myrbetriq® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Myrbetriq® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

What should I know before using Myrbetriq® (mirabegron)?

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because, while you are expecting or feeding a baby, you should only take medicines on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • You are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, such as herbal and complementary medicines.
  • You have allergy with any of active or inactive ingredients of Myrbetriq® or other medications.
  • You have any other illnesses, disorders, or medical conditions.

You should not use Myrbetriq® if you have:

  • Severe kidney disease
  • Severe liver disease
  • Severe uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure)

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There are no adequate studies in women for determining risk when using Myrbetriq® during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please always consult with your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before taking Myrbetriq®. Myrbetriq® is pregnancy risk category C, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Side effects

What side effects can occur from Myrbetriq® (mirabegron)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Myrbetriq®: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • Fast or pounding heartbeats
  • Pain or burning when you urinate
  • Painful or difficult urination
  • Dangerously high blood pressure–severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears, nosebleed, anxiety, confusion, severe chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats

Common side effects may include:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Headache
  • Cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat
  • Constipation, diarrhea

Not everyone experiences these side effects. There may be some side effects not listed above. If you have any concerns about a side-effect, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.


What drugs may interact with Myrbetriq® (mirabegron)?

  • High blood pressure
  • Glaucoma
  • Enlarged prostate, urination problems
  • Trouble emptying your bladder (very little urine or a weak stream of urine)

What is the dose of Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) for an adult?

Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Incontinence:

Initial dose: 25 mg orally once daily

Maintenance dose: 25 to 50 mg orally once daily based on individual patient efficacy and tolerability

What is the dose of Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) for a child?

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Myrbetriq®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
