What is Buscopan® (hyoscine butybromide) used for?
Buscopan® is commonly used for relieving colicky abdominal pain, which is caused by painful spasms in the muscles of the gastro-intestinal (GI) or genito-urinary (GU) tract. They include:
- Spasms of the stomach, intestines or bile duct (gastro-intestinal tract), including those associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Spasms of the bladder or urinary system (genito-urinary tract)
How should I take Buscopan® (hyoscine butybromide)?
Take as directed by your doctor. Swallow tablets whole with a glass of water. Take at least one hour before antacids or certain anti-diarrhea drugs (e.g., kaolin-pectin type).
How do I store Buscopan® (hyoscine butybromide)?
Buscopan® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Buscopan® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Buscopan® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

What is the dose of Buscopan® (hyoscine butybromide) for an adult?
The usual dose of hyoscine tablets is 1 or 2 10 mg tablets per day. If you need to take this medication regularly, the usual dose is 1 tablet 3 to 5 times a day. The maximum dose is 6 tablets per day.
For the injection, the usual dose is 10 mg to 20 mg given by intramuscular (into a muscle), intravenous (into a vein), or subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. The maximum daily dose is 100 mg.
What is the dose of Buscopan® (hyoscine butybromide) for a child?
The dosage has not been established in pediatric patients. It may be unsafe for your child. It is always important to fully understand the safety of the drug before using. Please consult with your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of Buscopan®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
