What is Sibelium® (Flunarizine) used for?

Sibelium® is commonly used to prevent migraine headaches.

How should I take Sibelium® (Flunarizine)?

Uses this drug as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely. To take Sibelium®, you should:

  • Take this drug at bedtime.
  • Take a little bit of water.
  • Keep taking this drug as you have been told by your doctor or other health care provider, even if you feel well.

How do I store Sibelium® (Flunarizine)?

Sibelium® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Sibelium® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Sibelium® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

  • Allergic reaction to any other medicines, foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals.
  • Pediatric.
  • Geriatric.
  • Used any other health conditions, drugs that have a risk of interaction with Sibelium®.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There are no adequate studies in women for determining risk when using Sibelium® during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please always consult with your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before taking Sibelium®. Sibelium® is pregnancy risk category C, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

  • A=No risk;
  • B=No risk in some studies;
  • C=There may be some risk;
  • D=Positive evidence of risk;
  • X=Contraindicated;
  • N=Unknown.

If you are breastfeeding, do not breast-feed while you take this drug.

Side effects

What side effects can occur from Sibelium® (Flunarizine)?

As taking others medicines, taking Sibelium® can cause some side effects. Most of them are rarely occurring and do not need any supplementary treatment. However, it is always important for you to consult your doctor if you have any problem after taking this medicine.

Some of the side effects are listed below:

  • Drowsiness;
  • Depression;
  • Heartburn;
  • Nausea;
  • Vomiting;
  • Stomach pain;
  • Sleeplessness;
  • Dizziness;
  • Vertigo;
  • Anxiety disorder;
  • Dry mouth;
  • Weakness;
  • Muscle aches;
  • Skin rash.

What drugs may interact with Sibelium® (Flunarizine)?

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any of these health problems: low mood (depression), Parkinson’s disease, or symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

What is the dose of Sibelium® (Flunarizine) for an adult?

  • 10 mg daily (at night) for adult patients aged 18 to 64 years.
  • 5 mg daily (at night) for elderly patients aged 65 years and older.

What is the dose of Sibelium® (Flunarizine) for a child?

Sibelium® is not recommended in children aged below 18 years.

How is Sibelium® (Flunarizine) available?

Sibelium® is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Sibelium® (Flunarizine) tablets 5 mg, 10 mg.

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services (115) or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Sibelium®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
