How to apply minoxidil 5%
Topical minoxidil is applied to the scalp, not the hair: 1ml twice a day, morning and night, and no more than 2ml in a day. Applying more will not speed anything up.

Part your hair over the thinning area so the applicator can reach the scalp, not the hair.
STEP 3Apply 1ml
That is about 10 sprays with the pump applicator. Spread it gently with your fingertips across the thinning area.
STEP 4Wash your hands
Straight away, so the solution does not transfer to your face or to anyone else.
STEP 5Let it dry
Wait until the scalp is fully dry before a hat, a hairdryer or your pillow. Then repeat once more, about 12 hours later.
How long minoxidil takes to work
Most people see nothing for the first two to four months. Six months of consistent twice daily use is the earliest fair point to judge topical minoxidil, and the benefit is kept only while you keep applying it. Individual results vary.
Weeks 1 to 4
Nothing visible yet. This is the stage most people stop at, which is why nothing changes for them.
Weeks 2 to 6
Shedding may increase. It is a recognised early phase as new hairs push resting hairs out, and it usually settles.
Months 2 to 4
Shedding settles. Hair often feels less fragile before it looks different.
Months 4 to 6
New growth appears as fine, soft, pale hair that thickens over the following months.
