How to conceive if you are underweight?

A lot of factors can get in the way of conceiving a child. Being underweight is one of them. If you are underweight and have trouble getting pregnant, take a look at this:

How do you know if you are underweight?

The Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago suggests that women with a low body mass index may have trouble getting pregnant. The BMI that is believed to interfere with fertility is below 18.5. Even if your underweight problem is not every serious, it can still impair your ability to bear a child.

How does being underweight affect your ovulation?

To ovulate regularly, a woman needs at least 17 percent total body fat. Ovulation is the process of releasing an egg from your ovaries into your uterus where it waits to get fertilized by a sperm. If you have too little fat in your body, the hormone production from the brain to the pituitary glands, which encourages the release of the egg, can be disrupted. The result is irregular ovulation or no ovulation at all.

How does being underweight affect your fertility?

Needless to say, without ovulation, you will not be able to conceive.  In some cases, underweight women can go for years without having a single period. Even if there is a presence of blood, you still cannot be sure since there is a condition called infertile bleeding. A monthly period does not necessarily indicate fertility.

How to fix this?

Thankfully, most underweight women are able to gain back their fertility if they can gain weight to reach the healthy BMI as long as other health conditions are in order. If you have a regular workout routine, this means you may need to reduce the intensity of your exercises to maintain the amount of fat in your body. You probably need to adjust your diet to increase your fat intake as well. After gaining a few weight, you will likely to start ovulating regularly as a sign of your body getting ready for a child to appear. If your ovulation still does not show up, there are medical procedures to help you get it back if you can maintain a healthy weight.

In conclusion, if you have a thin body and you do not see your ovulation often, it is likely that your lack of fat is interfering with your ability to be a mother. Putting on weight will fix this problem in most cases.
