What is the Noriday pill?
Noriday is a progestogen only pill, often called a mini pill. Each tablet contains norethisterone, a progestogen, and nothing else. There is no oestrogen in it.
That matters because oestrogen is the component behind several of the reasons a doctor might rule out a combined pill. Without it, a progestogen only pill is an option for some people who cannot or would rather not take oestrogen.
Every tablet in the pack is active. You take one a day, at the same time each day, and start the next pack the day after you finish. There is no break week and no inactive tablets.

Most daily contraceptive pills combine a progestogen with an oestrogen. The oestrogen is what a doctor is weighing when they ask about migraine with aura, smoking over 35, blood pressure, clotting history and breastfeeding.
A progestogen only pill removes that part of the equation, which is why it is often the option discussed when a combined pill is not suitable.
That does not make Noriday safer or better for everyone. It has its own considerations, a stricter daily window and a different bleeding pattern. It is a different tool, not an upgrade.
Whether the difference matters for you is exactly what the consultation is for.

Noriday works best when taken at the same time daily. The leaflet allows a limited window, and taking a tablet outside it is treated as a missed pill rather than a late one.
This window is noticeably tighter than the one on some other progestogen only pills, which is the main practical trade-off of this type.
Pick a fixed time that does not move on weekends, set a daily alarm, and think about whether your chosen time survives shift work, travel or a late night out.
If you are outside the window, treat it as a missed tablet: take one as soon as you remember, carry on with the pack, and use condoms while you check with a doctor or pharmacist.
What to expect with your periods
Bleeding patterns change
Irregular spotting is common in the first few months, particularly at the start. For some people periods become lighter or less frequent, for others they stop, and for others they stay much as before.
There is no withdrawal bleed by design
Because there is no break week, there is no scheduled bleed built into the pack. A change in pattern is not a sign the pill has stopped working.
When to check in
If bleeding is heavy, carries on beyond a few months, or comes with pain, speak to a doctor. Also check if you think you might be pregnant, since a missed period needs a different answer on this pill than on a combined one.
Ask about this at the consultation. Knowing what to expect is the difference between riding out a normal adjustment and stopping something that was working.

Noriday side effects
Because Noriday contains no oestrogen, the oestrogen related cautions that apply to combined pills are not the same conversation here. That does not mean there is nothing to discuss, and a doctor will still go through your history.
