What is Escapelle?
Escapelle is a brand of emergency contraceptive pill from Gedeon Richter, the Hungarian pharmaceutical company. Its active ingredient is levonorgestrel.
Each box has one white 1.5mg tablet. That one tablet is the whole course.
It is registered with Malaysia's NPRA under MAL06030792AZ. It is used after unprotected sex or when regular contraception fails, such as a split condom or missed pills. It is not an abortion pill and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

How to take Escapelle
Take it once
Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food, as soon as possible and within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It can be taken at any point in your cycle unless your period is already overdue.
If you vomit
If you vomit within 3 hours of taking it, the dose may not have been absorbed. Speak to a pharmacist or doctor straight away before taking anything else.
Afterwards
Use condoms or another barrier method until your next period starts. Take a pregnancy test if your period is more than 7 days late, much lighter than usual, or otherwise unusual.
If you are already on regular contraception, ask a doctor when to restart or continue it.

Is Escapelle right for you?
Escapelle is commonly used when
- You had sex without contraception
- A condom split or slipped
- You missed pills

Speak to a doctor before taking Escapelle if you
- Take efavirenz, ritonavir, rifampicin, rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates including primidone, griseofulvin or St John's wort
- Take ciclosporin
- Have severe liver problems
- Have Crohn's disease or another condition affecting absorption
- Have had an ectopic pregnancy or a fallopian tube infection
- Are lactose intolerant or have a rare inherited problem with galactose, since each tablet contains 142.5mg of lactose monohydrate
- Took ulipristal acetate (Ella) in the last 5 days
- May already be pregnant
- Are breastfeeding and have questions about timing
Some of these medicines can affect how well it works, and a doctor may recommend a different dose or method. Do not change the dose yourself.
Escapelle side effects
Most side effects settle within a day or two. Your next period may arrive earlier or later than usual, and may be heavier or lighter. The Escapelle leaflet groups side effects by how often they happen.

Escapelle lowers the chance of pregnancy after sex without contraception, or when your usual method lets you down, such as a condom that split or pills you missed. It is a one-off backup, not a regular method, and it does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
