What is Postinor?
Postinor is a brand of emergency contraceptive pill from Gedeon Richter, the Hungarian pharmaceutical company. Its active ingredient is levonorgestrel, a hormone that has been used in emergency contraception for decades.
The "2" means two tablets of 0.75mg. Together they make one full 1.5mg course.
It is registered with Malaysia's NPRA under MAL19872263ARZ, and has been registered in Malaysia since 1987. It is used after unprotected sex or when regular contraception fails, such as a split condom or missed pills. It is not an abortion pill and does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

Postinor-2 is commonly used when

- Take efavirenz, ritonavir, rifampicin, rifabutin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates including primidone, griseofulvin or St John's wort

- Have had a fallopian tube infection or an ectopic pregnancy
- Have a rare inherited problem with lactose or galactose (each tablet contains lactose)
