Evra is a combined hormonal contraceptive in patch form. Each patch contains two hormones, norelgestromin and ethinylestradiol, which pass through the skin into the bloodstream at a steady rate rather than arriving as a daily dose.
You wear one patch for seven days, replace it on the same day of the week for three weeks, then go one week with no patch. Your withdrawal bleed usually comes during that fourth week.
It is a prescription-only medicine in Malaysia, so a doctor assesses whether it suits you before it can be dispensed. Like other combined hormonal contraception, it does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

You pick a day of the week, and that becomes your change day for as long as you use the patch. Here it is Monday.
Put on the first patch on Monday. Take it off and put on a fresh one the next Monday, and again the Monday after that. That is three patches over three weeks.
Week four is patch-free. Your withdrawal bleed usually comes during this week. On the following Monday, start a new box, even if you are still bleeding.
The day never moves, so one weekly reminder covers the whole routine.

Try to press it back on. If it will not stick properly, put on a new patch straight away. Keep the same change day.
You may not be protected. Start a new cycle with a new patch, which gives you a new change day, use condoms, and check with a doctor or pharmacist the same day.
What to do depends on how late you are. Do not guess. Check the leaflet and speak to a doctor or pharmacist the same day.
This one matters most, because the time without hormones has been stretched. Put on a new patch as soon as you remember, use condoms, and speak to a doctor.
Skin irritation where a patch sits is common and usually mild. Tell a doctor if it is severe, spreading, or does not settle after you move the site.
The Evra patch costs RM85 a month at Hello Doktor. One box holds three patches, which with the patch-free week covers 28 days, so the box price is the monthly cost.

Price is for the medicine. The doctor consultation is RM1.
The patch costs more per month than most daily pills. Whether that is worth it depends on whether a weekly routine suits you better, which is worth discussing with a doctor.
The product information for Evra says the patch may be less effective in women who weigh 90kg or more.
If that applies to you, raise it at your consultation. The doctor can advise whether the patch is still a good choice or whether another method fits you better.
All combined hormonal contraception carries some risk of blood clots. With a patch, the hormones are absorbed through the skin rather than the gut, and regulators have noted that this can mean higher oestrogen levels in the body than with some combined pills, so the clot risk may be higher. For most people the risk stays low, but it is not zero, and it is higher than with methods that contain no oestrogen. A doctor weighs this against your own history before prescribing.
