The Fetal Development

How your baby’s growing?

Your baby now is about the size of a jack fruit, the length is over 50cm and weighs 3.6kg. As cozy as the baby is, your baby cannot stay inside you forever. Most doctors will not let you wait more than two weeks past your due date to give birth because it puts you and your baby at increased risk for complications.

Babies born at 42 weeks and beyond can have dry, flaky, wrinkled skin; long nails; bushy hair growth; less sebum surrounds body. The baby is malnutrition and the layer of subcutaneous fat is thin.

Body’s Changes

How your body’s changing?

It’s hard not to be anxious when your due date comes and goes and you’re still hugely pregnant (especially when family and friends keep calling to check on your status!). But don’t fret – you will not be pregnant forever. There is a good chance you will go into labor on your own this week, and if you don’t, you will be induced by 42 weeks, or earlier if you or your baby has any problems.

What you need to note?

About 5 to 6 percent of women have prolonged pregnancies that extend three or more weeks beyond their estimated due dates. Babies born at 42 weeks and beyond can have dry parchment-like skin and are often overweight. Waiting that long to deliver also increases your chance of developing an infection in your uterus that could be dangerous for your baby or of having a stillbirth.

Going to Doctor

What should you discuss with doctor?

Doctor will talk to you about the injection of labor induction if your baby is not delivered next week or earlier or there are problems. Most doctors will not let you wait more than two weeks past your due date to give birth because it puts you and your baby at increased risk for complications.

Prenatal testing

The methods your doctor uses to induce labor will depend on the condition of your cervix. If your cervix has not started to soften, thin out, or open, it’s considered not yet ready for labor. In that case, your doctor will use either hormones or mechanical methods to ripen your cervix before the induction. Depending on your situation, the procedures can include stripping or rupturing your membranes, or using drugs like oxytocin to start your contractions. If these and other methods don’t work, you’ll end up having a c-section.

Health and Safety

How to ensure safety in pregnancy?

Baby clothes washing

It is best to wash baby’s things such as clothes, blanket and things which touch bay’s skin before delivery.  This may be not necessary but expert says that you should wash them before your baby wear it. Because the material of new clothes is still tough, if you suddenly hug your baby due to his or her cuteness, it may irritate your baby’s delicate skin.

Overdue pregnancy

You cannot do anything during overdue pregnancy. Other methods such as herbal remedies, nipples stimulation and castor oil can induce labor but they cause contractions and the risk of your baby and extreme pain of you.  Most doctors will give you induction, usually sometime between 41 and 42 weeks to end your pregnancy earlier.
