Development & Behavior

How should my baby be developing?

 At week 29, the baby may be able to:

  • Eat biscuits themselves;
  • Jokes (the baby creates sound when joking from puffed saliva);
  • Mumble or babble when being happy;
  • Laugh often when interacting with you.

How to support my baby?

At this stage you can try to let your baby drink from a cup set. It’s best for the baby to use two straps holding glasses and faucets. If your babies become upset when they can not get water out of the glass, remove the valve on the lid. If your baby is in trouble and does not know how to drink from a faucet, you should remove the lid and let them drink directly from the cup. You also need to show them how to lean the glass back to let the liquid flow into the mouth.

Health & Safety

What should I discuss with my doctor?

Most doctors will not arrange health checks for your baby this month. On the positive side, it means that there is no serious problem with the baby; on the negative side, it means that you will not be able to recognize how the baby developes. Prepare questions for checks in the next month, but do not be afraid to call your doctor right away if you have any problems that make you interested or worried  you can not wait until the next follow-up visit .

What should I know?

Here are some things you should know about:

Entering the 7th month, you can quite understand your child and be able to assume that your child is having trouble. If they look hotter than normal, use a thermometer to measure their body’s temperature. Although you often hear that 37 degrees is the normal temperature, theoretically a healthy baby should have temperatures ranging from 36-38 degrees Celsius when being measured.

Maybe it’s hard to believe but sometimes fever is very beneficial for the baby: this means that their body is fighting for infection. Young children often have a higher average temperature than older children, so a child can only be considered to have a fever in one of the following symptoms:

  • Rectal or forehead temperature is higher 38 ° C;
  • The temperature on the ear is at 37.8 degrees Celsius;
  • Axillary temperature is higher than 37.2 degrees Celsius

Your child is just 7 months old and they can not let you know if they are tired or sick, so you should call your doctor if your baby has higher temperature than the above indicators. From the 7th month or more, please call the doctor only when the temperature reaches 38 degrees C when being measured at rectal. No matter what makes you anxious, always tell your doctor.

You should call your doctor if your baby has a fever and also the following symptoms: they have difficulty in breathing, they have small and red purple  spots or the big purple skin, loss of appetite, inability to swallow, watery excessive saliva, coma, a shiny eye, abnormal expression, irritability and other unusual behaviors. In children under 1 year of age, fever can also cause seizures.

For relief of fever, try to undress the baby. You can put the baby in a bathtub with warm water or bathe your baby by using sponge, or you can let the baby rest in a cool room (not too cold). Also, please prevent dehydration by giving breastfeeding or bottle regularly.

If these steps do not help them in remission, call your child’s doctor for advice treatments. If you take medication, always use as directed by your doctor: safe dosage is based on your child’s weight and dosage will always vary. Do not give your baby an overdose medication. Tell the doctor if your child is using drugs that can cause Reye’s syndrome in children with fever.

If your baby is eating, sleeping and playing well despite a fever, they may not need treatment or medical care. Trust your intuition as well as information on the thermometer when your baby has a fever.

Your baby is not going to sit without support

Most of the development phases will be different at different ages. Although on average, the baby can sit without support at around 6 months and a half, some other babies can sit more early than they are about 4 months. Because your child still has a long way ahead, do not worry if you notice that your baby grows slowly.

Each general skill and other skills develop in particular mostly based on genetic factors in certain age groups. Although parents can not do much to speed up this development process, there are ways to prevent cases that the process goes slowly. Let your baby sit in seats for babies, stroller or high chair from which they can very quickly learn to sit. On the other hand, the child may spend most of the time to lie or be placed in the cradle and are rarely entitled to sit very late. In fact, the baby in different cultures also have time sitting very differently.

My Concerns

What I am concerned about?

Here are some things you may be concerned about:

Spoiling your baby

Although it is difficult to spoil a baby at this age, there are many reasons you should not hold your baby too soon. When playing “baby’s taxi”, you can be able to hold your baby up when you se the little hand of your baby scrambling continuously or when they feel bored. However, holding your baby for hours not only makes you unable to complete your own work but also affects the baby. In your arms, your baby will not have the opportunity to practice skills, such as climbing and crawling, sitting, they just always rely on you. In addition, the baby will not have the opportunity to learn how to use an independent body for other important things, such as learning how to play in a short time and how to respect themselves more (the skills needed for self-esteem in young budding start). Finally, they would not have learned invaluable lessons when you just keep the baby with you.

Sometimes babies cry because they want be hold, not for hang out, or they may want to feel comfortable and get noticed. So the first thing you should do is determine whether your child has received enough attention and comfort.

Let’s see if the baby has other demands or not. Is baby’s diaper dirty? It is time for lunch yet? IS your baby thirsty? Is your baby tired? If so, please meet your baby’s needs, then row to the next step: move them to a new location. Please take them to the playground if they are in the cradle; take them out if they are a walker in the playground. This can meet the baby’s preferences of walking around. Then, make sure that your child has toys or objects for entertainment as pots, pans, a cute stuffed animal or a game board with many games that your baby likes. You need to provide 2 or 3 toys on your baby’ reach. But too many toys can also cause little frustrating. Give the baby chance to choose toys when they seem to be uneasy. If the baby continues crying for being hold, try to distract the babyby a certain activity but absolutely not hold them up. You can show your baby how to put a cube, show where the “eyes-nose-mouth”are on the stuffed animals and instruct your child to follow your instructions.

If they only divert attention for a moment, even they express reluctant objections, tell them that you have work to do and move out. Try to appear in sight of baby, talk or sing to your baby if you find it effective. Then move the baby out of sight but still keep your baby hear your sound. You should only do this when the baby is in a safe location such as the crib or child’s room. Before you do this, tilt your head over a corner and play peekaboo game to let them know when you go away, you will still come back. Let your baby stay with their toys a little longer each time or you can also let your baby show a little longer protest if necessary. But please always return when the baby started fussing so that you can calm your baby, play with them in a few minutes and start the process over.

You should gradually prolong the period when you are not holding your baby. This will help encourage your baby to play alone. do not let your baby think that crying is the only way to get your attention. You should think realistically that most children will not play more than a few minutes alone. Even the most fiercely independent baby still needs frequent change of scenery and toys. So be flexible in moving them to other places, so the baby can change the space.

Do not feel too guilty when trying to rotate the baby alone. If you feel that way, you may think that your baby play alone is a punishment (but actually not). Your baby needs the freedom to learn and explore things on their own. Do not forget that your child still needs a hug and cuddle to feel safe and secure. Flexibility between the release and holding your baby will help you and your baby become close, this also does not make your baby too dependent on you.

So in week 30, the baby will grow like what?
