Skincare is the universal concept and practice. It has taking the world by storm throughout the last decades. People start to invest more and more in their appearance and the beauty industry has their eyes in this game. Facial serum, however, which has only been introduced into the market for less than 10 years, has created its own wave. We see it on TV or the Internet through commercial ads played by beautiful celebrities. Check out today article to learn about why facial serum becomes a trend, is it worth the hype and investment or it is just another bust.

While we have established and practiced a simple 3 steps skincare from the 60s with cleanse, tone and moisturize. Asia, especially South Korea and Japan’s beauty industry has brought skincare to a whole new level. They introduced cream, essence, toner, facial oil and facial serum.

2 years ago, the whole internet went crazy for the Korean 10 Steps Skincare Routine. Some say it is too much for your skin to breath and too time-consuming for people to handle every single night. Others, on the other hand, who practice this routine for a long period of time say they experience improvement in their skin texture. It becomes moist, soft and less bumpy. Many also claim serum is the most important step of them all, except the three basic steps.

Advantage of using facial serum

First of all, serum has a thinner texture and usually comes in liquid form. Due to its small molecules, your skin can absorb it much faster and deeper.

Secondly, moisturizer is made from several chemical substances and extracts which were meant to moisture your face by saving it from cracking because of the dryness and the cold. Facial serum, meanwhile, is usually made of powerful extracts that can be 10 times more concentrated than a moisturizer.

Thirdly, there are many different types of serum on the market. For instance, there are facial serums for anti-aging, dark spot, freckles, dry skin, oily skin or acne prone skin. It targets a particular need and you can see a result much faster.

Lastly, a little goes a long way. Serum usually comes in a small bottle, however, 1 to 2 drops are enough for the whole face. Therefore, one 10-oz bottle can last you for months.

The downside of facial serum

Out of all the wonderful benefits mentioned above, there are some drawbacks about facial serum that you need to take into consider.

Since it contains active and concentrated ingredients, serum has a higher price than normal moisturizer. It usually has the highest price in a complete skincare line.

It targets a certain problem on your skin. Many people with more than 1 skin problem usually get confused and don’t know how to decide between products.

Advice is you need to know what is your priority, for instance, if you have dull, oily and acne prone skin and you want to have a glowing skin before fighting with acne and sebum, try to pick a whitening or brightening serum.

Last but not least, it is not for those who have eczema, rosacea or any other chronic skin conditions because serum penetrates into the skin so fast, thus, it can weaken the skin’s barrier.
