People say that eyes are the window to the soul since they can deliver much more than what words can offer. In modern society, we have to look at our phones and computer screen for hours, sometimes in bad lighting conditions, which leaves bad effects on our eyes. Since putting away your phone and computer is somewhat impossible, here are some exercises that can lighten this situation and relieve eye strain.
Most computer–related eye strain comes from the lack of blinking. Believing it is not important, most people forget to blink while focusing on their computer screen. If you don’t blink enough, your eyes will get dry and teary. Thus, train yourself to blink every 44 seconds to keep your eyes well lubricated and scratchy-free.
After hours of concentrating and staring at computer screen, try to switch your focus back and forth with far and near object. Try to find an object around 150 feet away from you and outline it. Then refocus on an object 30 feet near you and outline it again. You should spend 10 to 15 seconds for each object and repeat this for 4 to 5 times.
This method is a very simple yet extremely helpful exercise. After an hour of working, sit back in your chair, close your eyes and start to roll them in circle. Repeat this 1 to 2 times every hour to give your eyes the massage. Eye rolling can lubricate your eyes and ease the tension of those little muscles.
Take your eyes off the screen and your hands off the desk. Hold a pen away from you and then slowly move it towards you, keep looking at a certain spot in that pen until it gets too close to you nose and you can focus on it no more. Repeat this exercise for around 10 times and you can also swing it from side to side instead of back and forth to spice things up.
This exercise is one of the most effective exercises to relieve tired eyes. Sit back in a comfortable position and rub your palm against each other to heat them up. Then, form a cup with each hand and press gently them over your closed eyes. Relax and let the heat do its mission.
Since we are all getting older by the seconds, it is important to know how to take care of our body, especially our eyes properly. Your body is covered with different muscle groups and your eyes are the same; long hours using will cause soreness and unwanted tension. Thus, remember to give your eyes the breaks and exercise they deserve. Plus, provide them with a healthy diet to prevent early glaucoma.
