How to Deal with Hair Loss

Adjust your diet

Deficiencies in minerals can cause your hair to fall more. So, include iron-rich foods such as liver, kidney, bran flakes, and soya products in your daily meals. Don’t forget protein and zinc, either. Aim for foods with a high content of zinc such as wheatgerm, pumpkin seeds, egg yolk, and shellfish.

Try supplements

If you find it hard to eat enough zinc and iron, you may take supplements to maintain sufficient intakes of these nutrients. You can easily find these supplements at any health food shops or pharmacies, but make sure to check with your doctor first, just to stay on the safe side.

Hair thickening tricks

You can make your hair looks fuller and thicker with a layer cut. Layers add volume to thin hair, making it appear much healthier. Large curls are also helpful.

Wash with cold water

Some hair experts believe that if you wash your hair with cold water, the hair cuticles will close swell up a bit, giving the overall hair a slightly thicker look.

Steroid injections

Steroids injected directly into the bald areas may encourage hair growth. The injection prevents antibodies from attacking the hair follicles. However, this is quite painful and only works for small bald patches.

Oral steroids

Prescription steroids may inhibit the production of testosterone, thus preventing hair thinning in women as female hair loss possibly has something to do with this hormone. Those who use this treatment report to see improvement within 3 – 6 months.

Hair replacement surgery

Only people who have at least some healthy hair growth to serve as donors can undergo hair replacement surgery. Although this is an expensive procedure, it proves to be effective at giving you the hair of your dream.

Aromatherapy

Studies suggest essential oils can help prevent hair loss. Here is the recipe for hair growth promoted by one Scottish study:

  • 2 drops of thyme
  • 2 drops of atlas cedarwood
  • 3 drops of lavender
  • 3 drops of rosemary
  • Haft a teaspoon of jojoba oil
  • 4 teaspoons of grapeseed oil

Mix them well and gently massage into your scalp for a couple of minutes every night to stimulate your hair follicles.

Indian head massage

Indian head massage using a combination of coconut, almond, olive or sesame oil is believed to encourage blood circulation in the scalp and strengthen hair roots.
