People who have ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) usually have difficulty managing time, being organized, setting goals, holding down a job as well as many other problems. So what can they do to simplify their life or at least, make it easier?
Set time limits for decision-making
People who have ADHD can spend days thinking over and over again some simple decisions that others make in minutes. To speed up the process and save time, they can set a time frame or a budget cap for doing things. For instance, if that person is choosing a school for their children, they should set a deadline, and make the best choice by that date. On the other hand, if they are choosing which new pairs of shoes to buy, pick a price cap and ignore other costly shoes.
The key here is to identify the most important factor to consider when making any decision, whether it is price, aesthetics, convenience or practicality. Try to focus solely on that factor when making decisions.
Fight the tendency to over-commit
If you are a person with ADHD and you want to make a new commitment, then first, get rid with the old one. For instance, if you agree to join a book club, then it is for the best that you give up the music club. People who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder tend to spread themselves too thin, and that can affect the quality of the work, as well as the pleasure they get from the activities that they are joining in.
Keep extra medication on hand
Every time you fill a prescription, write on your calendar or your planner the date in which you will have to renew it. Alternatively, you can also set your computer to make an alert or generate an email reminder on that date. If possible, ask your pharmacist to remind you when it’s time to refill. For the best, you should get a refill at least one week before the medications run out.
Join an ADD support group
When you join a support group of people who share the same condition, you will luckily get a lot of emotional support. For instance, the members there can get together online instead of doing boring and monotonous tasks, such as filling out tax returns or filing: Once at a time, one person leaves the conversation to do the work properly for 15 minutes, and then gets back to talking, or having fun with the others.
Simplify your wardrobe
The more clothes an ADHDer owns, the harder it is to decide what to wear each morning. Therefore, it would be best to continually winnow out extra clothing. To be specific, each time you get a new shirt, you should consider getting rid of an old one.
If you have ADHD, you should definitely try the tips above, as it may work wonderfully for you. Nevertheless, if you still having difficulties coping with your life, then maybe it’s time to seek professional help.
