Your heart health depends mostly on your diet. If you are suffering from cardiovascular disease, there are certain kinds of food you should avoid to keep your heart in order.
Any meat that has been modified by salting, drying or canning is processed meat. The beloved sausages, hot dogs, bacon, hams and other canned meat all fall into the category of processed meat. After the processing, the nutrition values decrease rapidly. Those foods just supply a small amount of protein you, but together with much bad fat and toxic chemicals. People eat a lot of processed meat these days without knowing about the damage preservatives in them can do to the heart. It is advisable to avoid processed meat as much as possible. If you have to eat processed meat, keep it under 6 ounces per week. Frozen meat or those which have been sliced is still safe.
Refined carbohydrates (white bread and white rice, for example) and starches (like potatoes) have an association with elevated risk of heart disease. Nowadays, many people want to eat more and more carbohydrate products, because they have been addicts to sugar. The brain will force you to eat more sugar products since sugars help it to calm down quite well. However, the more sugar you eat, the worse your body will be. It not only stores in your body as fat, such as belly fat, but it also can lead to diabetics easily. For the sake of your heart, switch your sources of carbohydrates to whole grains. Whole grains keep your blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control. Thus it can protect your blood vessels. People who consume whole grains are also less likely to have obesity, diabetes, and strokes. The acceptable amount of refined carbohydrates is less than 7 ounces per week.
Sugary drinks are sodas, sweetened fruit juice, and sports drinks. All of them contain an extremely high level of sugar. 12 ounces of soda is believed to contain 10 teaspoons of sugar. Soft drinks advertised as diet drinks contain no sugar. However, they do not have any nutrient value either. Sugary drinks are as bad for your heart as refined carbohydrates are. In a health study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the heart condition of a group of 90,000 women were tracked over a period of 20 years. They found that women who had more than two soft drink servings every day ended up with 40% higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease.
Although a diet free of processed meat, refined carbohydrates, and soft drinks does not necessarily guarantee heart disease risk-free, it is able to improve your condition. Even if you do not have problems with your heart, avoiding those kinds of food still do wonder to your health. It helps lower your chances of getting other illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
