How to Avoid Allergies in Your Job

Annoying allergies which can appear anytime might make it tough to get through the work day. Sneezing, nasal congestion and red, itchy eyes can cause you to lose focus. There is some basic knowledge to reduce and even avoid them that you should know. Otherwise, you can be missed your work and reduced your productivity.

    About your jobs

The best allergy treatment is that you have to avoid triggers altogether. Therefore, you should know about your allergic condition and choose the most suitable job for yourself.

Here are some worst jobs for people with allergies

    Lay Off Landscaping Jobs

With people who have a pollen allergy, avoid taking the job as a landscaper, groundskeeper, or lawn care specialist is necessary. The most common outdoor allergies are the tree, grass, weed, and mold allergy which can make working outdoors a problem.

Steer Clear of Spa Services Work

With allergic rhinitis or asthma, working at a nail salon, spa or any job where irritating fumes or sprays fill the air can lead to allergy symptoms. Chemical fumes and sprays can trigger an allergy attack in allergy-sensitive people.

    Bar and Restaurant Jobs

Before you apply for a job in a bar or a restaurant, make sure that it is a free smoke environment. Secondhand smoke may trigger  allergy symptoms. And, it  can also lead to complications like sinusitis and bronchitis.

    Housekeeping Gig

People who do the cleaning indoors can run up against allergy triggers just about anywhere. Indoor cleaning can make you exposed to dust, mold, detergents, and even cockroaches, which are all common allergy triggers. Skin contact with dust mite or cockroach allergens can cause an itchy rash

    Working With Animals

If you have pet-dander allergies, try to avoid jobs like dog groomer or walker, shelter worker, or pet store attendant.  Although you are an animal lover, this might be the only way to stay free of allergy symptoms.

Working in a Florist or Greenhouse

The cause is usually not the plant pollens or the mold in the plant soils. Fungicides and fertilizers used in this type of work may also trigger allergy symptoms in allergy-sensitive workers.

    Kitchen Jobs

Allergy triggers can be filled in a bustling kitchen, mainly if you have a food allergy. Some bakers are allergic to wheat. And fumes from cooking shellfish and seafood can trigger allergy symptoms when inhaled.

How to avoid allergies in your job

    • Keep your work area free of dust.
    • Turn on the air conditioning, which can help to clear out some allergens.
    • Try using a HEPA filter at your desk.
    • Avoid bringing soft items into your office, like pillows for your chair seat or collectible stuffed animals. Allergens can collect on them.
    • Ask to have air filters changed frequently.
    • Try to have soiled, dusty, or moldy carpet replaced.

Although you tried everything, allergies still get in the way of your work life, the next step may be immunotherapy, allergy shots. But if allergies continue to have you suffering at work, it may be time to see an allergist.
