Uses 

What is Ceporex (celafexin) used for?

Ceporex is commonly used for treat infections caused by bacteria, including upper respiratory infections, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections.

Ceporex may also be used for purposes; ask your doctor for more information.

How should I take Ceporex (celafexin)?

To take this drug,

  • Take cephalexin exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Do not use cephalexin to treat any condition that has not been checked by your doctor.
  • Dissolve the dispersible tablet in a small amount of water, about 2 teaspoonfuls. Stir this mixture and drink all of it right away. To make sure you get the entire dose, add a little more water to the same glass, swirl gently and drink right away. Do not swallow or chew a dispersible tablet.
  • Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
  • Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Cephalexin will not treat a viral infection such as the flu or a common cold.
  • Do not share cephalexin with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.
  • This Ceporex can cause you to have unusual results with certain medical tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using cephalexin.

How do I store Ceporex (celafexin)?

What side effects can occur from Ceporex (celafexin)?

Common side effects may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness

  • Headache
  • Joint pain
  • Vaginal itching or discharge

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to cephalexin such as hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • Severe stomach pain
  • Diarrhea (watery or bloody)
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
  • Easy bruising
  • Unusual bleeding (nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum)
  • Purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin
  • Little or no urination
  • Agitation
  • Confusion 
  • Hallucinations
  • Severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling)

What is the dose of Ceporex (celafexin) for an adult?

Bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis:

The recommended dose is 2 g orally as a single dose one hour before the procedure.

Cystitis:

The recommended dose is 250 mg orally every 6 hours or 500 mg orally every 12 hours for 7 to 14 days.

Otitis media:

The recommended dose is 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 10 to 14 days.

Pharyngitis:

The recommended dose is 250 mg orally every 6 hours or 500 mg orally every 12 hours.

Skin or soft tissue infection:

The recommended dose is 250 mg orally every 6 hours or 500 mg orally every 12 hours

Osteomyelitis:

The recommended dose is 500 mg orally every 6 hours.

Therapy should be continued for approximately 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the nature and severity of the infection. Chronic osteomyelitis may require an additional one to two months of antibiotic therapy and may benefit from surgical debridement.

Prostatitis:

The recommended dose is 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 14 days.

Pyelonephritis:

The recommended dose is 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 14 days.

Upper respiratory tract infection:

The recommended dose is 250 to 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 7 to 10 days.

Bacterial infection:

The recommended dose is 250 to 500 mg orally every 6 hours.

Therapy should be continued for approximately 7 to 21 days, depending on the nature and severity of the infection.

What is the dose of Ceporex (celafexin) for a child?

Otitis media:

The recommended dose is 12.5 to 25 mg/kg orally every 6 hours.

Pharyngitis:

Over 1 year of age:

Streptococcal pharyngitis: The recommended dose is 12.5 to 25 mg/kg orally every 12 hours.

Skin or soft tissue infection:

The recommended dose is 12.5 to 25 mg/kg orally every 12 hours.

Bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis:

As an alternative in penicillin-allergic patients (non-anaphylactoid type): The recommended dose is 50 mg/kg (maximum 2 g) orally once, 1 hour before procedure.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
