Uses

What is Stilnox® (zolpidem tartrate) used for?

Stilnox® is commonly used for people who feel difficulty sleeping, called insomnia. It helps patients to initiate and maintain sleep and not recommended for use for more than 4 weeks at a time.

Stilnox® has a different chemical structure to other sleeping tablets. Stilnox® works by binding to special sites in the brain which produce sleep.

How should I take Stilnox® (zolpidem tartrate)?

  • Stilnox® should only be taken when you are able to get a full night’s sleep (7 to 8 hours) before you need to be active again. It should be taken in one dose and not be re-administered during the same night.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water, unless your doctor has told you to take half a tablet.
  • Usually, Stilnox® or any other medicines to treat sleeping disorders should only be used for short periods (e.g., 2 to 4 weeks). Continuous long-term use is not recommended unless advised by your doctor.
  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how long to take the medicine.
  • How do I store Stilnox® (zolpidem tartrate)?

Stilnox® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Stilnox® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Stilnox® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Stilnox® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.
