What is Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna) used for?

Senokot-S® is commonly used to treat hard stools (constipation).

How should I take Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna)?

Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.

Follow how to take Senokot-S® as you have been told by your doctor. Do not use more than you were told to use.

Take at bedtime if taking once a day.

Take with a full glass of water.

Do not take other drugs within 2 hours of this medicine.

How do I store Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna)?

Senokot-S® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Senokot-S® in the bathroom or the freezer. What should I know before using Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna)?

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because, while you are expecting or feeding a baby, you should only take medicines on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • You are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, such as herbal and complementary medicines.
  • You have allergy with any of active or inactive ingredients of Senokot-S® or other medications.
  • You have any other illnesses, disorders, or medical conditions.
  • You have any of these health problems: Bowel block, belly pain, upset stomach, rectal bleeding, throwing up, or change in bowel habits lasting >2 weeks.
  • You are taking mineral oil.

Tell all of your health care providers that you take this medicine. This includes your doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and dentists.

Do not use Senokot-S® for more than 1 week unless told to do so by your doctor.

Do not use other laxatives or stool softeners unless told to do so by the doctor.

If you have rectal bleeding or you do not have a bowel movement after using this medicine, talk with your doctor.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant. You will need to talk about the benefits and risks of using Senokot-S® while you are pregnant.

Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding. You will need to talk about any risks to your baby.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There are no adequate studies in women for determining risk when using Senokot-S® during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please always consult with your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before taking Senokot-S®. What is the dose of Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna) for an adult?

Usual Adult Dose for Constipation – Acute

2 to 4 tablets orally daily in divided doses or as a single daily dose preferably in the evening.

What is the dose of Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna) for a child?

Usual Pediatric Dose for Constipation – Acute

2 to 6 years: up to 1 tablet daily.

6 to 12 years: 1 to 2 tablets daily. 

How is Senokot-S® (Docusate and Senna) available?

Senokot-S® is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Senokot-S®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
