What is Nautamine® (diphenhydramine) used for?

Nautamine® is commonly used for the treatment of these following:

  • Motion sickness
  • Allergic reaction
  • Allergic conjunctivitis
  • Vasomotor rhinitis
  • Henoch – Schonlein purpura
  • Serum sickness
  • Itchy dermatitis
  • Sleep disorders
  • Chorea, sea and air sickness
  • Vomiting in pregnancy
  • Meniere’s syndrome
  • Premedication

How should I take Nautamine® (diphenhydramine)?

Use diphenhydramine exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

For motion sickness, take diphenhydramine 30 minutes before you will be in a situation that causes you motion sickness (such as a long car ride, airplane or boat travel, amusement park rides, and so on). Continue taking diphenhydramine with meals and at bedtime for the rest of the time you will be in a motion-sickness situation.

As a sleep aid, take diphenhydramine within 30 minutes before bedtime.

How do I store Nautamine® (diphenhydramine)?

Nautamine® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Nautamine® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Nautamine® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Nautamine® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.

What should I know before using Nautamine® (diphenhydramine)?

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because, while you are expecting or feeding a baby, you should only take medicines on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • You are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, such as herbal and complementary medicines.
  • You have allergy with any of active or inactive ingredients of Nautamine® or other medications.
  • You have any other illnesses, disorders, or medical conditions.

When taking diphenhydramine, use caution driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Diphenhydramine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.

Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking diphenhydramine.

Do not give this medication to a child younger than 2 years old.

What is the dose of Nautamine® (diphenhydramine) for an adult?

Oral, IV, IM, rectal, topical, intranasal, in the conjunctival sac

Oral for adults: the recommended dose is 30-50 mg 1-3 times / day. The treatment course is 10-15 days.

As soporific: the recommended dose is 50 mg at bedtime.

IM: the recommended dose is 50-250 mg.

IV: the recommended dose is 20-50 mg.

What is the dose of Nautamine® (diphenhydramine) for a child?

When oral administered, single dose for children under 1 year is 2-5 mg.

From 2 to 5 years, the recommended dose is 5-15 mg.

6 to 12 years, the recommended dose is 15-30 mg.

Externally applied 1-2 times / day.

How is Nautamine® (diphenhydramine) available?

Nautamine® is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Nautamine® tablets 90mg

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Nautamine®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
