What is Mucothiol® used for?

Mucothiol® is commonly used for treating patients with respiratory tract problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (long-term obstruction of the flow of air through the airways and out of the lungs), chronic productive cough (long term cough which produces much mucus).

Also, it has effective in reducing the amount of mucus (phlegm) and making it less sticky, which then makes it easier to cough up.

Mucothiol® may be used for other purposes, ask your doctor for more information.

How should I take Mucothiol®?

This medication is available in a capsule or as a syrup (one strength of syrup for adults and one for children).

Take this medication by mouth usually three to four times a day. Your doctor may advise you to take an initial higher dose and then reduce it once your body responds to the medication.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day – unless specifically told not to by your doctor.

It may take up to an hour or so before the full benefit of this drug takes effect.

Certain medical conditions may require different dosage instructions as directed by your doctor.

How do I store Mucothiol®?

Mucothiol® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Mucothiol® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Mucothiol® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Mucothiol®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
