What is Lipovenoes® used for?

Lipovenoes® is commonly used for supply of energy and parenteral nutrition supplementation with essential fatty acids.

How should I take Lipovenoes®?

Infusion

The infusion rate should not exceed 0.125 g fat per kg per hour = 1.25ml Lipovenoes® 10% PLR per kg per hour. However, at the start of the parenteral nutrition with fat, a reduced dosage with maximum of 0.05 g fat/ per kg per hour is recommended.

For patients with a body weight of 70 kg, the infusion is started with about 10 drops per minute with after 30 minutes is gradually increased to a maximum of 26 drops per minute.

How do I store Lipovenoes ®?

Lipovenoes® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Lipovenoes® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Lipovenoes® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Lipovenoes® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.

Precautions & warnings

What should I know before using Lipovenoes ®?

When using this drug, it is contraindicated with patients who have:

  • Impaired lipid metabolism: hyperlipidemia, lipoid nephrosis, acute pancreatitis
  • Allergy to chicken protein
  • All acute or life threatening such as collapse and shock, recent heart attack, stroke

Special warnings:

The serum triglyceride level should be checked daily and the levels of blood glucose, acid base metabolism, serum electrolytes and fluid balance should be reviewed at appropriate intervals.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There are no adequate studies in women for determining risk when using Lipovenoes ® during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please always consult with your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before taking Lipovenoes. Lipovenoes ® is pregnancy risk category C, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Side effects

What side effects can occur from Lipovenoes ®?

Possible undesirable effects are slight rise in temperature, heat sensation-cold sensation, chills, pains in the head, back, bones, chest and loins and increase in the triglyceride level.

What is the dose of Lipovenoes ® for an adult?

The recommended dose is 1 to 2 g fat/kg b.w./d=10-20ml Lipovenoes ® 10%.

What is the dose of Lipovenoes ® for a child?

The recommended dose is 1 to 2 g fat/kg bw/d=10-20ml Lipovenoes ® 10%.

With increased energy requirements up to 3 g fat/kg bw/d=30ml Lipovenoes ® 10%.

How is Lipovenoes ® available?

Lipovenoes ® is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Lipovenoes ® 10%: Emulsion for intravenous infusion
  • Glass bottle: 100ml, 250ml, 500ml

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Lipovenoes ®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
