Uses

What is Fucicort® (fusidic acid/betamethasone) used for?

Fucicort® is used for inflammatory dermatoses where bacterial infection is present or likely to occur e.g., atopic eczema, discoid eczema, stasis eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, psoriasis, discoid lupus erythematosus.

How should I take Fucicort® (fusidic acid/betamethasone)?

You should apply a thin film Fucicort® to the affected area of skin twice daily gently rubbing into the skin.  You should always wash your hands after applying the medication and make sure you don’t get any in your eyes, nose or mouth.

Fucicort® Cream is intended for short term use and should not be used for more than 2 weeks.  You should use Fucicort® Cream for as long as recommended by your doctor and depending on your condition, long term continuous use should be avoided as it can cause problems and Fucicort® Cream should not be used under an occlusive dressing unless directed by your doctor.

How do I store Fucicort® (fusidic acid/betamethasone)?

Fucicort® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Fucicort® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Fucicort® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

You should not flush Fucicort® down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. It is important to properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist for more details about how to safely discard your product.

Precautions & warnings

What should I know before using Fucicort® (fusidic acid/betamethasone)?

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding. This is because, while you are expecting or feeding a baby, you should only take medicines on the recommendation of a doctor.
  • You are taking any other medicines. This includes any medicines you are taking which are available to buy without a prescription, such as herbal and complementary medicines.
  • You have allergy with any of active or inactive ingredients of Fucicort® or other medications.
  • You have any other illnesses, disorders, or medical conditions.
  • You have skin lesions of viral, fungal or bacterial origin (e.g. herpes or varicella), skin manifestations in relation to TB or syphilis, perioral dermatitis and rosacea, ulcerative condition.

May increase risk of developing antibiotic resistance.

Stasis dermatitis and other skin disease w/ impaired circulation.

Not to be used for >7 days if there is no clinical improvement.

Avoid prolonged continuous treatment esp in infants and childn.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Side effects

What side effects can occur from Fucicort® (fusidic acid/betamethasone)?

Side effects may occur when using this drug including:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Eczema (aggravated condition)
  • Skin burning sensation
  • Pruritus
  • Dry skin
  • Application site pain or irritation
  • Erythema
  • Urticaria (including rash erythematous and generalised rash)
  • Application site swelling or vesicles

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Fucicort®) take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
