What is Digoxine Nativelle® (digoxine) used for?

Digoxin is used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). It helps the heart work better and control your heart rate.

How should I take Digoxine Nativelle® (digoxine)?

Digoxin comes as a tablet, capsule, or pediatric elixir (liquid) to take by mouth. Digoxin is usually taken once a day.

The pediatric elixir comes with a specially marked dropper for measuring the dose. If you have difficulty, ask your pharmacist to show you how to use it. It is important that you always take the same brand of digoxin. Different brands of digoxin have different amounts of active drug and your dose would need to be changed.

Digoxin helps control your condition but will not cure it. Continue to take digoxin even if you feel well. Do not stop taking digoxin without talking to your doctor.

How do I store Digoxine Nativelle® (digoxine)?

Digoxine Nativelle® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Digoxine Nativelle® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Digoxine Nativelle® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. What should I know before using Digoxine Nativelle® (digoxine)?

Before taking digoxin, tell your doctor if:

Atrial Fibrillation

IV: The recommended dose is 8 to 12 mcg/kg.

Tablets: The recommended dose is 10 to 15 mcg/kg.

Oral solution: The recommended dose is 10 to 15 mcg/kg.

Congestive Heart Failure

IV: The recommended dose is 8 to 12 mcg/kg.

Tablets: The recommended dose is 10 to 15 mcg/kg.

Oral solution: The recommended dose is 10 to 15 mcg/kg.

What is the dose of Digoxine Nativelle® (digoxine) for a child?

Premature:

  • IV: The recommended dose is 15 to 25 mcg/kg.
  • Oral solution: The recommended dose is 20 to 30 mcg/kg.

Full-term:

  • IV: The recommended dose is 20 to 30 mcg/kg.
  • Oral solution: The recommended dose is 25 to 35 mcg/kg.

One month to 2 years:

  • IV: The recommended dose is 30 to 50 mcg/kg.
  • Oral solution: The recommended dose is 35 to 60 mcg/kg.

Two to five years:

  • IV: The recommended dose is 25 to 35 mcg/kg.
  • Oral solution: The recommended dose is 30 to 45 mcg/kg.
