What is Covapril® (perindopril erbumine) used for?

Covapril® is commonly used for treating high blood pressure. It may be used alone or along with other medicines.

It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack or death caused by heart problems in patients with stable coronary artery disease. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How should I take Covapril® (perindopril erbumine)?

Use perindopril as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Take perindopril by mouth with or without food.

Take perindopril on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it.

Taking perindopril at the same time(s) each day will help you to remember to take it.

Continue taking perindopril even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.

How do I store Covapril® (perindopril erbumine)?

Covapril® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Covapril® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Covapril® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. For safety, you should keep all medicines away from children and pets.

What should I know before using Covapril® (perindopril erbumine)?

Before using this drug, tell your doctor if:

  • You have a history of angioedema (swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing; or hoarseness), including angioedema caused by treatment with an ACE inhibitor (e.g., lisinopril).
  • You have severe kidney problems.
  • You are taking a medicine that contains aliskiren and you also have diabetes or kidney problems. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure if a medicine you take contains aliskiren.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

There are no adequate studies in women for determining risk when using Covapril® during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please always consult with your doctor to weigh the potential benefits and risks before taking Covapril®. Covapril® is pregnancy risk category D, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

What is the dose of Covapril® (perindopril erbumine) for an adult?

Hypertension: 

The recommended dose is 4 mg once daily, may be increased to 8 mg once daily after 1 month.

Elderly: Start treatment at 2 mg, may be progressively increased to 4 mg after 1 month, then 8 mg if needed.

Symptomatic heart failure 

The recommended dose is 2 mg, may be increased by 2-mg increments ≥2 wk to 4 mg once daily if tolerated.

What is the dose of Covapril® (perindopril erbumine) for a child?

The dosage has not been established in pediatric patients. It may be unsafe for your child. It is always important to fully understand the safety of the drug before using. Please consult with your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

How is Covapril® (perindopril erbumine) available?
