What is Aminoplasmal® used for?

Aminoplasmal® 10% solution for infusion is used for people who cannot eat food normally, the body to grow or to cover. It is used as a solution like glucose of fat emulsions.

It is given to you through a small tube with a cannula placed in a vein (intravenous infusion).

How should I take Aminoplasmal®?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

How do I store Aminoplasmal®?

Aminoplasmal® is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Aminoplasmal® in the bathroom or the freezer. There may be different brands of Aminoplasmal® that may have different storage needs. It is important to always check the product package for instructions on storage, or ask your pharmacist. Precautions & warnings

What should I know before using Aminoplasmal®?

Do not use Aminoplasmal® 10% solution for infusion, if:

  • You are allergic to any of the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • You suffer from a genetic abnormality of your metabolism of proteins and amino acids.
  • You have a severe (i.e. life-threatening) circulation disorder (shock).
  • You have insufficient oxygen supply.
  • Acidic substances accumulate in your blood (acidosis).
  • You have a severe liver disease.
  • You have kidney failure not adequately treated by artificial kidney.

You should not receive any infusions if you have:

  • Poorly controlled heart failure with marked impairment of your blood circulation
  • Accumulation of fluid in your lungs (lung edema)
  • Excess water in your body, swelling of limbs (hyperhydration)

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Side effects

What is the dose of Aminoplasmal® for an adult?

Adults and adolescents from 14 to 17 years

Your doctor will determine the amount of solution you need each day.

In general, this will be 10 – 20 ml per kg of your body weight per day. The solution will run in at a rate of not more than 1 ml per kg of your body weight per hour.

What is the dose of Aminoplasmal® for a child?

In children the doctor will adjust the dosage carefully according to the individual child’s age, nutritional status and actual disease.

2 – 4 years:

15 ml per kg of your body weight per day.

5 – 13 years:

10 ml per kg of your body weight per day.

The solution will run in at a rate of not more than 1 ml per kg of your body weight per hour.

This solution must not be administered to new-born babies and children under 2 years because the composition of the solution does not properly meet the special nutrition requirements of this age group..

How is Aminoplasmal® available?

Aminoplasmal® is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Aminoplasmal® 10% solution for infusion, glass bottles of 250 ml, 500 ml and 1000ml

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Aminoplasmal®, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
