What is Advil® PM used for?

Advil® PM is commonly used for treating minor aches and pains that may cause sleeplessness.

How should I take Advil® PM?

Take Advil® PM by mouth with or without food. It may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach. Taking it with food may not lower the risk of stomach or bowel problems (e.g., bleeding, ulcers). Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you have persistent stomach upset.

Take Advil® PM with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL) as directed by your doctor.

Do not take Advil® PM unless you have time for a full night of sleep.

How do I store Advil® PM?

Advil® PM is best stored at room temperature away from direct light and moisture. To prevent drug damage, you should not store Advil® PM in the bathroom or the freezer.   • You are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) in the past 14 days, or you are taking sodium oxybate (GHB).
  • You are dehydrated, drink alcohol, or have a history of alcohol abuse.
  • You have poor health or sleeplessness without pain, or if you are older than 60 years old.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

  • Enlargement of the prostate or other prostate problems
  • Glaucoma or increased eye pressure
  • Thyroid disease
  • Low blood sodium levels
  • Low fluid volume (e.g., caused by diarrhea, vomiting, not drinking fluids)

38 mg-200 mg oral tablet: 2 tablets orally at bedtime not to exceed 2 tablets daily.

What is the dose of Advil® PM for a child?

38 mg-200 mg oral tablet:

12 yrs or older: 2 tablets orally at bedtime not to exceed 2 tablets daily.

25 mg-200 mg oral capsule:

12 yrs or older: 2 capsules orally at bedtime not to exceed 2 capsules daily.

How is Advil® PM available?

Advil® PM is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:

  • Tablet
  • Capsule

What should I do in case of an emergency or overdose?

In case of an emergency or an overdose, call your local emergency services or go to your nearest emergency room.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of Advil® PM, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your regular dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose.
